SMAX is the new magnetic absolute sensor from Lika Electronic engineered to measure short linear displacements in typical industrial applications and even in the harshest environments such as in utility vehicles, valve actuators, telescopic systems and hydraulic pistons (for instance outriggers, stabilizing slides, telescopic cranes, booms of mobile equipment), industrial trucks and forklifts, man-lifts, scissor lifts and loading platforms.

The robust housing in eco-friendly Macromelt® hermetically encapsulates the magnetic sensor and the circuitry and provides high IP68/IP69K protection to withstand the most aggressive industrial environments. Thus the sensor is claimed to be unaffected by dust, dirt, moisture, water, oil, grease as well as safe from UV-radiation and marine environmental conditions. Furthermore the thermoplastic shell efficiently protects the circuitry from vibration fatigue, mechanical stresses, shocks and vibration impacts. The advanced magnetic sensing technology allows for non-contact and frictionless measuring principle. This guarantees steady and virtually wear & maintenance-free operation along with unparalleled reliability over time and longer operating life.
The absolute position information is provided via either analogue or digital interface.
Analogue interface is available in both 4-20mA current output and 0-10V voltage output and implements the TEACH IN procedure which allows to greatly ease the configuration by simply defining the axis travel directly on the site and by setting the start and stop reference points of the measuring range.
SMAX also comes with Modbus RTU RS-485 serial interface in compliance with “Modbus over Serial Line” protocol. It provides device-to-device communication and complete configuration through extensive parametrization such as scaling, watch dog and full diagnostics (wrong parameters, flash memory error, …). The digital resolution is programmable between 0.1 and 1.25 mm (0.004” ÷ 0.05”).
SMAX position sensor is equipped with a magnetically encoded absolute scale type MTAX which is highly immune to dirt and external contaminants and can be easily applied / removed via a pre-applied self-adhesive backing. The maximum measuring length is 600 mm at a max. speed of 5 m/s.
SMAX further encompasses a status LED for visual diagnostic information.
The operating temperature range is between -25° +85°C (-13° +185°F).
